Chalcedony, or chalcedon, is a semi-precious stone and various the mineral quartz. The colour is almost white to light blue or dove blue, often with stripes. You can also find the stone in various colours such as apple green (chrysoprase), pink, red (carnelian variety), brown (sardine), and copper. Sources include Brazil, Madagascar, Uruguay, India, the US and Great Britain. The bright blue chalcedony comes from Namibia and is becoming increasingly rare, which increases the value of the stone. In ancient times, statues of weather gods were carved from chalcedony. Chalcedony is known for its medicinal properties, which include treating hoarseness, tonsillitis, vocal cord problems, and varicose veins. According to various literature, chalcedony belongs to the zodiac signs Cancer and Sagittarius.
