The book Tao Te Ching is one of the most important writings of Taoism, which besides Confucianism and Buddhism is one of the great three Chinese philosophies. It is a collection of 81 short texts that deal with both ontological and ethical aspects of life. It discusses how the world works, but also how people act 'right' in life. The first chapter begins with the word Tao meaning 'the Way', the second chapter with Te meaning 'virtue, bravery, integrity'. Central in the Tao Te Ching are 'following the Tao' and Wu wei, 'not intervening, letting go', that is, you do not oppose the course of things, but go along with it spontaneously. Illustrated edition in luxurious silk design. The new translation and introduction are from Chad Hansen, professor at the University of Hong Kong.
