A diary is an autobiographical writing that records, often from day to day, in chronological order, what the writer experiences, thinks, perceives or contemplates. This is in contrast to the autobiography, which describes events afterwards. The diary is often something intimate and personal, it is even provided with a lock and, in principle, it is never seen by anyone other than the author. An exception is the log, which is usually kept correctly so that information can be retrieved later, also by other persons.
