The mineral talc is a hydrated magnesium-hydrogen-containing silicate having the chemical formula H2Mg3 (SiO3) 4 or Mg3Si4O10 (OH) 2. The fylosilicaat belongs within the clay minerals of the smectite group. The mineral is a platelet-shaped to needle-shaped mass with an alternate name steatite. The monoclinic crystal structure is rare. Talk is a very soft mineral and defines a hardness of 1. Talc feel soapy or greasy. It has an average density of 2.75 kg / dm3 and is translucent.
